Hotel Shanker in Kathmandu is a 19th-century listed palace located within walking distance of the popular Thamel and Durbar Marg, the tourist centers of Kathmandu. It was the royal residence of Nepal’s rulers from 1894 to 1964. The facade was preserved when it was converted into a luxury hotel, but the interiors have been redesigned to offer travelers the comfort they expect from a world-class hotel. The hotel features exquisite and authentic artifacts. For example, the lobby bar’s carved windows are over 200 years old.
In the early 19th century, General Jit Shumsher Rana, brother of H. A.
